We have lived without Black Mirror for three whole years, and…finally, it’s returning! Here’s a recap of all the information we’ve got so far for the new season, including the cast, how many episodes there’ll be and more.
Black Mirror, the only and best Black Mirror, is back. Set in a dystopian future, the Netflix hit series uses a unique narrative to explore human beings’ relationship with advanced technology. It changed the way we see the future, and opened our eyes to new possibilities.
Now it’s confirmed the Black Mirror team is actively working on new episodes, we can’t wait to see what they come up with this time.
The New Cast
According to VarietyDanny Ramirez and Zazie Beetz will join the cast of Black Mirror Season 6.
Some of the new faces are familiar from previous hit series. Aaron Paul is best known for his role as Jesse Pinkman on Breaking Bad. He also voiced Todd in BoJack Horseman and starred in the last season of HBO’s Westworld. Kate Mara portrays Hayden in American Horror Story Murder House, Zoe on House of Cards, and Lana at Call Jane.
Zazie Beetz was an integral part of Atlanta, Easy and Deadpool 2 and received an Emmy nomination. Danny Ramirez was a cast member of Top Gun, Maverick and The Falcon and will now be part of Sky’s The Rising.
We also saw Auden Thornton and True Story in This Is Us and Teen Spirit, Clara Ruggard and Anjana Vasan respectively in Teen Spirit and Killing Eve. Paapa Esiedu and Josh Hartnett were in Penny Dreadful.
Episodes
Season 6 will feature more episodes than Season 5. Season 5 had only three. These castings will not appear in the next three episodes of Season 6. There will be additional stars in future episodes.
Black Mirror’s history has seen the casting of A-list celebrities. Season 1 had Get Out’s protagonist, Daniel Kaluuya and the first female Doctor Who Jodie Whittaker. In Season 2, they invited Bryce Dallas Howard, from Jurassic World, and Jerome Flynn, from Game of Thrones.
The End of the F***ing World’s Alex Lawther, House of Cards’ Michael Kelly, and Marvel star Letitia Wright were cast in Season 3. Miley Cyrus was seen in the final season. It is likely that Black Mirror Season 6 will continue its tradition of featuring top actors in starring roles.
Why is it taking so long?
The producer, Annabel Jones and the creator and lead writer, Charlie Brooker both left Black Mirror’s original production company, House of Tomorrow, a part of Endemol Shine, in early 2020.
With the financial support of Netflix, they established a new company, called Broke & Bones in February 2020. As the rights of Black Mirror remained in Endemol Shine’s hands, production came to a halt until the two sides could reach a deal.
