According to experts, cancers that begin in the head or neck region, such as the throat, tongue and ears, are all included under the heading head and neck cancer.
According to them, “Most head- and neck cancers can be traced back to squamous cancers.” Squamous cell are skin-like cells with flat surfaces that surround the linings of the nose, throat, larynx and thyroid.
“This form of cancer spreads to lymph nodes in the neck (also known as lymph glands).
“Sometimes, the first sign of cancer that a person notices is a swollen (enlarged) lymph node in the neck.”
There are four main options to treat throat cancer: radiotherapy, surgery or chemotherapy, and targeted medicines.
