Woman’s Controversial Plane Behavior Ignites Passionate Online Discussion

Why This TikToker’s Plane Etiquette Is Causing Mayhem Among Flyers

A TIKTOKER triggered mixed reactions from frequent flyers after admitting to standing up as soon as the plane lands.

The Confession That Set the Internet Abuzz

Carly Weinstein sparked a fierce debate online when she posted her confession on her social media account.

The Urgency of Standing Up

Carly shared with her followers that she cannot sit still when the plane lands and needs to get up as soon as possible. She explained that she always feels in a rush and has somewhere to be. And if she has to travel for long hours, she will stand up as soon as the opportunity presents itself. Carly said: “I will never be the girl that just sits.” “As soon as I get the opportunity to leave, I am sprinting off that plane.” Carly added that she cannot let herself “slack” off in case the row behind her gets to go in front. She posted her video in hopes of finding like-minded travellers who share the sentiment. And many flooded to the comments to side with her on the matter.

The Great Divide Among Flyers

But the opinions were divided with some people preferring to sit down. One person said: “The row behind you is not going to get out before you. Standing isn’t going to make anything go faster pls just sit and wait.” Another added: “The people who try and leave before someone in the row in front of them need to learn social etiquette.”

The Debate Rages On

Whether you should stand or sit once your plane has landed has been a matter of debate for years. One passenger previously posted a video of herself sitting in a plane seat after her flight had touched down. In a video on Tiktok, Batsheva said: “Sitting in my seat instead of standing up until it’s my row’s turn to deplane.” Just like Carly, Batsheva has divided people into those who were unimpressed with her and those who deemed her actions the correct etiquette.

The Psychology Behind the Need to Stand

But if you prefer to stand up as the plane touches the ground, there could be a logical explanation for that. Gaynor Parkin, a registered clinical psychologist told Stuff the reasons why people feel the need to stand up as soon as the plane has landed, even though they know it’s unlikely to get them out of the airport any sooner. She said that it was the feeling of actively doing something that often led to them standing up early and that sitting and waiting can feel like a waste of time. She said: “You always want to go on to the next thing… you want to get off and get on with the day.” There are also passengers for whom a plane cabin is a stressful environment, which can even lead to panic attacks. Gaynor explained that those people stand up because they feel like they need to get off the plane sooner. She continued: “Working as a psychologist for the last 30 years, I know plane phobias and people having panic attacks when they’re in crowded places is really common.”
