“Why Luke Grimes Can’t Stand Yellowstone’s Major Backlash” – Igniting the Fire behind the Biggest Criticism

Luke Grimes Reveals Why Yellowstone is Misunderstood

The neo-Western “Yellowstone” revolves around a family’s fight to protect their expansive ranch in Montana. The Dutton family uses firearms and manpower to defend their land against various threats. This political aspect of “Yellowstone” is complex.

According to Luke Grimes, who portrays Kayce Dutton on the show, categorizing “Yellowstone” as conservative based on its cowboy aesthetics is unfair. He believes that people often stereotype the characters in the show due to their appearances.
“I think a lot of people see a cowboy hat and a horse and they think, ‘Oh, that’s not for me, those people believe differently,'” he explained to The Independent. “And it’s almost like they take these flawed characters in the show and chalk it up to some sort of weird belief that they’ve put on them. Meanwhile, you can have a terrible person like [‘Succession’s’] Logan Roy, who lives in an apartment in Manhattan, and that’s fine.”

Defying Labels: Yellowstone’s Multifaceted Nature

Luke Grimes isn’t the only one from the “Yellowstone” cast challenging the show’s political classification. Piper Perabo, who portrays Summer Higgins, addressed criticisms of “Yellowstone” as a “red-state show.” She emphasized the show’s diverse nature and inclusion of varying ideologies. Perabo stated, “Almost no show has as many Native American leads as Yellowstone does, except for ‘Reservation Dogs.’ And to me, that’s very cool and modern and diverse.”

“Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan expected the initial negative reviews due to the show’s unconventional storytelling approach. He likened “Yellowstone’s” storytelling to punk rock, focusing on different perspectives within a singular setting. Despite receiving criticism, the creators and cast members maintain that the show transcends simplistic political labels and offers a nuanced viewing experience.
