Why did Michael Myers allow Corey to go in Halloween Ends without explanation?

Ever since John Carpenter’s Halloween was released in 1978, the fictional town of Haddonfield has been the home of terror.

Jamie Lee Curtis’ Laurie Strode has arguably gone down as the most iconic final girl and perhaps no mask is more iconic than Michael Myers’. The pairing is forever cemented in the horror hall of fame, so it’s no surprise that filmmakers can’t help bringing them back. Halloween II, Halloween: H20, and of course, David Gordon Green’s Halloween.

They were at the center of Halloween Kills and Halloween 2018 but Halloween Ends features a dramatic shift and places Corey Cunningham at the forefront.

With his inclusion, however, emerges a question… why did Michael Myers let Corey go?

Why did Michael Myers allow Corey to go in Halloween Ends without explanation?

Michael finally lets Corey go when they meet, because Corey sees the ordeals and hardships Corey has gone through.

From this point on, the two share a connection and Corey embarks upon his own string of murders, gradually shifting into Haddonfield’s new boogeyman of sorts. Taking this into consideration, it’s heavily suggested that Michael understood the potential within Corey to turn to evil.

Michael is weaker so he has found someone to take control and continue terrorizing the streets. They essentially become one and the same after this meeting, but it likely wasn’t a meeting of chance, but fate.

Laurie is seen in the classroom, looking out the window, as the teacher teaches a lesson on fate. Indeed, the circumstances surrounding Michael and Corey’s encounter suggest that it was fate that brought them together, with Corey destined to be the town’s spiritual successor to Michael.

This is reinforced at the end of the film when Laurie writes in her book that evil doesn’t die, it just changes shape.

‘Everyone can have their own narrative’

During a conversation ScreenRantRohan spoke out about the fact that there is a lot of room for interpretation when it comes to Corey.

“What’s special about this movie and what I fully wanted and intended to do was to create a movie, like you said, where everyone can take their choice out of it. Everyone can have their own narrative of what happens, and what’s understandable.”

He said: “You said it beautifully. I’d love for the audience to be, like, ‘No! Yes!’”
