Both were raised in Cheshire, England. They moved to Arizona in 1996 in pursuit of a criminal life.
Shaun documented their rise to the top of the criminal underworld through his book trilogy “Hard Time”.

Even though his cause is unknown, Shaun sent an urgent plea in March 2020 to get medical attention for his long-time friend. He had been experiencing symptoms similar to Covid-19.
Following his sudden passing, there were many tributes.
Writing on social media, Shaun said Mahoney will be remembered as “the bravest; biggest; baddest; realest person I ever met”.
