The utterly captivating Tell Me Lies, starring Grace Van Patten as Lucy Albright and Stephen DeMarco respectively, has become a new Hulu obsession. The series is based on Carola Lovering’s 2018 novel of the same name and chronicles the pair’s relationship after they meet at college and complications arise as they get to know each other more and more.

The finale reveals that since Lucy hasn’t seen Stephen he has gotten engaged to Lydia Montgomery (played by Natalee Linez, Power Book III: Raising Kanan)

Lydia appears a small handful of times throughout the show and is introduced as one of Lucy’s good friends from school. They’re shown to confide in each other and an earlier scene even shows Lydia discussing her problematic relationship with a guy named Rob. He’s cheating on her so Lucy sticks up for her friend, and finds and punches him to get revenge.

Their friendship makes the reveal all the more shocking when Lucy and Stephen reunite at Bree and Evan’s wedding.

Exchanging niceties, Stephen tells Lucy that he’s engaged to her old friend who can’t wait to see her and catch up after so long.

The final episode of Season 2 features Lydia and Lucy together before they discuss their surprising romantic relationship.

“… the goal if we, knock on wood, get Season 2, would still be seeing college. I want to go through all of college. So all the unanswered questions where people are like, ‘How the heck did that come to be?’ We will dive into all of those things: How did Stephen get together with Lydia?”

She also revealed that Lydia and Stephen was an idea she had from the beginning and it wasn’t an afterthought.
