Hot on the heels of Netflix’s latest true-crime documentary, Girl in the Photograph comes a new skin-crawling story from France and Germany, My Daughter’s Killer, which details Andre Bamberski’s decades-long search for answers after the mysterious death of his teenage daughter.

Andre started a nearly 30-year journey for justice after the 1982 death Kalinka, then 14, who he believed was murdered by Dr Dieter Krumbach, his stepfather.

The case at the heart of My Daughter’s Killer

Kalinka Bamberski, a young woman from Kalinka, was found dead on July 10th at 3:00 AM.^Th, 1982.

Just 14 years old, Kalinka’s death was an Earth-shattering shock to her father, Andre Bamberski, as his daughter lived a happy and healthy life.

According to The GuardianAndre was suspicious that Kalinka’s stepfather, Dr Dieter Krumbach, had played a role in her death after an autopsy report revealed she had multiple injection marks on her arms and right leg.

The report also noted that there was fresh blood around the teenager’s vagina, which had been torn, and that a white substance was found inside her, which was never tested.

During the autopsy, Kalinka’s sexual organs were removed and were never seen again even though they could have been potentially crucial pieces of evidence.

Despite the suspicious circumstances surrounding Kalinka’s death, the case was closed by German authorities, leading Andre to take matters into his own hands, resulting in a quest for justice that would take up almost the next 30 years of his life, which is detailed in the Netflix documentary.

Was Dieter Krombach ever killed?

Even though Andre Bamberski had been gathering an increasing amount of evidence to prove that his daughter’s death was suspicious, German authorities continued to refuse the reopening of the case.

Eventually, in 1995, a trial was held in a French court where Krombach was found guilty in absentia of Kalinka’s murder and was sentenced to 15 years in prison, although he did not attend the trial and German authorities refused to extradite him to face charges according to The Guardian.

Krombach was later arrested for drugging a 16-year old female patient. Krombach confessed to the crime when confronted by forensic evidence and pleaded guilty. Since then, 16 women have made allegationsHe is against it.

Krombach was found to have been working as a doctor in 2006, despite not possessing a license. He was sentenced to two year imprisonment before being released in June 2008.

In September 2009, Krombach, aged 74, was mysteriously found bound, beat, and gagged in Mulhouse in France. This is the Alsace region which borders Germany.

As he was still a wanted fugitive following his conviction in absentia in 1995, Krombach was arrested in connection to Kalinka’s death and eventually would go on to face a new trial in March 2011.

According to Digital SpyDieter Krombach was sentenced 15 years in prison “bodily harm leading to unintentional death”It could not be proven that he wanted to kill Kalinka.

Dieter Krombach was freed from prison after nine years of trying to appeal his conviction.^nd2020, on medical grounds. He died seven months later in a nursing facility on September 12.^Th, 2020.

Andre Bamberski was what?

Following his daughter’s death in 1982, Andre Bamberski dedicated the next three decades of his life to finding her killer.

After Kalinka’s autopsy report showed that she had several injection marks on her arms, right leg and thorax, he suspected that her stepfather Dieter Krombach killed her.

Andre began to gather all the evidence possible and pressured the French and German authorities for a continued investigation.

He even travelled to Krombach’s hometown of Lindau in Germany to distribute flyers containing his allegations against the doctor, which Krombach would use to sue Andre in a defamation case for which he was awarded 500,000 German Marks – although Andre Bamberski never paid according to The Guardian.

After almost three decades and with time running out before Krombach’s conviction in absentia would be dropped, Andre Bamberski was forced to resort to desperate measures as he arranged for the kidnapping of Krombach so that he could be arrested by French authorities.

According to Digital SpyAndre approached Anton Krasniqi (a man by the name of Anton Krasniqi) who, with two other associates, kidnapped Dieter Crombach from Germany. They then left him on Mulhouse’s streets to be arrested.

Andre Bamberski pleaded guilty to organizing the kidnapping at a May 2014 trial. He was sentenced for one-year suspended imprisonment per the judge. New York Times.
