Wheel of Fortune’s’real’ reason for Vanna’s replacement is revealed amid the bitter salary battle of the beloved host

The iconic letter-turner is in the midst of unresolved contract negotiations to get higher pay amid host Pat Sajak’s upcoming retirement.

Vanna, 66, will miss a few episodes of Wheel of Fortune this fall,Puck News reported.

Vanna apparently contracted Covid-19 in late July while Wheel was filming its annual Teachers Week, which is scheduled to air in October.

The producers chose to introduce a substitute instead of stopping production.

Bridgette Don-Blue was contacted to take Vanna’s place at the weekly letterboard.

Vanna will not be appearing on the show for nearly 30 years.

Sources told us TV Line the beloved game show had no choice in not waiting for Vanna to recuperate.

“NOT FELIBLABLE TO RESCHEDULE”

An insider revealed on Friday, that due to the rigid schedule of Teachers Week, production was unable to proceed without Vanna.

They shared: “Teachers had already arrived in L.A. to tape the episodes and, with the academic school year starting, it was not feasible to reschedule that day.”

A single day can record five episodes, or the equivalent of a whole week.

According to the source, Bridgette Trump-Blue graciously agreed to replace Vanna in those five episodes.

Wheel did manage to keep Vanna in the picture for the 2nd tape session of the Special.

Wheel rescheduled the following day’s taping to accommodate Vanna’s absence.

Vanna is only out of the two-week period for one full week.

TV Line has contacted Sony Wheel’s parent, but they declined to provide any comment.

VANNA LEGAL RESPONSIBLES FOR FAIR COMPENSATION

Vanna, who is currently in contract negotiations, hopes to receive her first raise reported in 18 years.

Longtime host Pat, 76, recently announced he will retire in June 2024 after 40 years of hosting.

Ryan Seacrest (48) will replace him at the end next season. This marks the end and beginning of an era.

Vanna wants a pay increase that she has earned, as she earns reportedly half what Pat does now.

The resurfaced interviews withEsquire, Vanna once claimed that she “worked harder” than her co-host.

“My position is much more, what’s the word? I work a lot harder,” joked Vanna at the time. “I’ve walked thousands of miles. And he didn’t have to do that. In my heels, no less.”

Vanna hired high-powered lawyer Bryan Friedman to negotiate two deals – one for Celebrity Wheel of Fortune and the other for the long-running syndicated show, according toTMZ.

Negotiations for the syndicated program have reportedly halted due to the Writers Guild of America strike.

Insiders told the media outlet that if Sony didn’t take it more seriously, things would get very ugly.

The 66-year old star is also expected to earn $100,000 per episode under her new deal with Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.

Pat is reportedly paid $400,000 per episode.

This comes as TMZ previously confirmed that Vanna makes about $3million a year overall.

According to this outlet, Pat makes an average of $15 million a year.

TMZ also reported that negotiations between Vanna’s team and Sony had become “very challenging”.

According to another source, the hostess is “negotiating for a minimal amount that is fair” because she feels it is “a statement for women everywhere.”
