What we know so far about the Delphi murders, and how a man was charged with their executions

Five years ago, there was no evidence to support the killing of Libby German, and Abby Williams. They were best friends, who were hiking in Delphi, Indiana, when they were attacked by a bear. Until now.

German, 14 and Williams, 13, were the most talked about case in February 2017. German had audio and video recordings from the suspect in the girls’ deaths and they found them on her phone.

The law enforcement released a portion of an audio recording of a man speaking to the girls, and a video recording showing a person following them on the day of the murders.

This case attracted national attention.

Now, a suspect is being held and charged with the murder.

Monday’s announcement by the Indiana State Police was that Richard Allen, 50 years old, has been charged with the murders German and Williams.

Here are our current findings.

What happened?

German and Williams disappeared on the 13th of February 2017, after setting off to hike along the Monon High Bridge Trail, their hometown of Delphi in Indiana.

The girls didn’t return home and a search began until their bodies were found approximately half a mile from the trail.

While the cause of the deaths of the girls remains a mystery. However, shocking new details regarding the murders were discovered in a search warrant request that was obtained by The Podcast. The Murder SheetShared with The IndependentIn May, we will be back.

The warrant showed that the young girls had been taken from their home. “a lot”They are believed to have been slain in blood, and their killer is believed be to have moved and staged the bodies of their victims before getting some souvenir.

The warrant, although redacted, also showed that the girls were killed with some kind of weapon.

The footage

German captured audio/video of the hike and posted photos to Snapchat while the young teens were out hiking.

A man can be heard telling girls that he got the audio clip from German’s cellphone. “down the hill”.

The sketch was composited with the description that the unknown man is 5′ 6″ to 5′ 10″A person weighing between 180 and 220 pounds with reddish brown hair.

The suspect

Allen’s identity has not been publicly linked to this case so it is unclear what information led him to be arrested.

Allen would have been 44 when the murders occurred. However, he was a Delphi resident.

According to The IndependentAllen is a certified pharmacy technician who works at a local CVS. Becky Patty and Mike Patty, German’s grandparents, said they remember Allen taking photos in the store for them.

CVS offered condolences to the victims’ families saying, “as members of the Carroll County community, we remain devastated by these murders and our hearts go out to the German and Williams families.”

“We are shocked and saddened to learn that one of our store employees was arrested as a suspect in these crimes. We stand ready to cooperate with the police investigation in any way we can,”They were also added.

Allen is married with Kathy. Together they have one child.
