What is the ‘wrinkle patches’ trend on TikTok?
With over 18million views and several videos under the hashtag #wrinklepatches on TikTok, users are able to navigate various brands and reviews about the trend.
Wrinkle patches are made of thin sheets of silicone used as stickers applied directly to the skin in areas of need.
Videos show users applying the patches to their skin and demonstrating different brands of the patches.
Do wrinkle patches actually work?
Dr Caroline Robinson, a dermatologist, said: “Wrinkle patches work by covering the skin in order to decrease mobility in an attempt to prevent or improve wrinkles,” per CNN.
Different parts of the body form wrinkles – the neck, chest, and face being some of the most common – and wrinkle patches come in various sizes to conform to the area in which they are being used.
“The pads help prevent transepidermal water loss – locking in moisture so the skin will be better hydrated and will be better able to repair itself and produce collagen,” added dermatologist Dr Hadley King.
“And the pad also keeps the skin flat, so this helps prevent the creases that form during sleep.”
