What is No November? And is it healthy for men to do this?

It’s that time of year again – the leaves are falling from the trees, the nights are drawing in, and men across the world are refraining from masturbating in the name of No Nut November.

The phenomenon has been around just over a decade. In 2011, the first known reference to it was made on Internet forums.

As you might imagine, No Nut November does not mean that participants will abstain from eating nuts for a month. It seems that participants are able to completely avoid sex or masturbation.

However, watching pornography and actually being aroused are permitted within the rules. It is important that you do not climax.

This idea is becoming more popular in recent years. But, is it healthy?

No Nut November is often portrayed as a positive experience for mental and physical well-being by those who participate. However, Dr. Rena Makik, a urologist says that there isn’t any hard evidence supporting this claim.

Malik actually spoke to InsiderEjaculation is said to have benefits, including reducing stress levels and possibly lowering the risk of developing prostate cancer.

Malik cited European Urology’s 2016 study, which showed that prostate cancer was less common in men between 20 and 40 years old who ejaculated over 21 times per month than in those of similar age who ejaculated less.

The urologist also discussed the idea that masturbation can lead to reduced performance in sports, before dismissing it as something that doesn’t have a basis in science.

“If [refraining from masturbation] feel like it’s helping [men] have more clarity and they’re not bothered and they feel great, then by all means that’s fine. But if you are having issues, there’s no point in putting yourself through torture because someone said that you should do it,”She said.

According to Dr. David J. Ley, a certified sex therapist and clinical psychologist, the treatment could also reduce testosterone levels.

“Our sexuality is like a muscle, and failing to exercise it actually weakens it, it doesn’t make it stronger,”Dr. Ley explained InsideHook. “Researchers find that, in men, abstinence and refraining from ejaculation appears to decrease testosterone.”
