What does TikTok mean by spa water?
TikTok’s viral spa-water came from user, Gracie Norton.
She posted a video online showing how to make spa water, and claimed that it was her recipe.
She didn’t know her creation was actually a traditional soft Latin drink known as Agua Fresca, which in Spanish means “cool water”.
Agua Fresca (light, non-alcoholic, fruity) is popular throughout Mexico.
This refreshingly cool beverage is made with fruit, water, sugar, and ice.
What’s the controversy about TikTok Spa Water?
TikTok was furious at Norton’s video after it emerged that her spa water was actually a Mexican drink.
The influencer claimed that she had created the drink from scratch, but it was actually a duplicate.
The internet was flooded with comments about Norton’s video, pointing out her ignorance and misappropriation of the name of the drink.
Since then, her TikTok account was banned. She issued an apology to all who were affected. “offended.”
“Recently I filmed a spa water series, which I titled incorrectly. The proper name for this drink is Agua Fresca, and the origin belongs to the Latin community,”In a statement, she said.
“Many of your comments have indicated that you feel more at home if the videos are removed entirely, so that is exactly what I did.
“Most of my content celebrates the many ways that we can show our love by trying new recipes. I know it is my responsibility continue to learn about the origin of these recipes.
“I sincerely apologize to the Latin community and those of you that I have offended.”
Central Recorder reached Norton to request his opinion, but he has yet to respond.
