Palace was made to pay when Wilfried Zaha was sent away by Eberechi Eze on the break. The Eagles talisman completed superbly to give Palace a surprise lead.

Liverpool was then left with worsening circumstances after the break.

The Uruguayan received a straight red for his home debut after Darwin Nunez’s ill-judged headbutt on Joachim Andersen.

However, just as Liverpool was losing the match to Liverpool, Diaz made a sudden and magical comeback.

He came in from the left and cut through five Palace shirts, before landing a stunning shot just beyond Vicente Guaita.

It was a spectacular strike that seemed to be set to inspire Liverpool to victory.

The crowd went wild when Diaz’s enthusiastic celebration was accompanied by the Merseyside outfit, which felt the first victory of the campaign.

Patrick Vieira, however, stood firm and held on to his side.

This means Liverpool have just two draws for their campaign after a 2-2 draw against Fulham on the first weekend.

They are currently four points behind Manchester City, the reigning champions. On Saturday, they defeated Bournemouth 4-1 to keep their perfect start.

Klopp’s team will be next to travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United on Monday.

Erik ten Hag’s Liverpool team will be trying to win a third consecutive loss. The Premier League currently has them at the bottom after losing to Brentford, Brighton and Brentford.
