Warning to those who have taken Covid over the last 2 years due to’significantly greater’ mortality risk

A new study suggests that people who had Covid have an increased mortality risk up to two full years after the infection.

The majority of Brits has already had the virus, and many have even been ill more than one time.

Those hospitalised by Covid have a higher chance of dying during the years after infection,

Hospitalised patients with Covid are more likely to die in the following years.

The majority of people have a level of protection from the virus following a mammoth vaccine rollout, as well as prior infection.

Scientists in the US found that those who were hospitalised with Covid had a greater chance of death during the following years compared to individuals who did not fall ill.

Researchers have found that respiratory and cardiac issues can persist for several months following an initial Covid infection.

The new study published inNature Medicine, found as far as two years after infection people who were hospitalised with the bug faced a far greater chance of dying.

The ‘long Covids’ were at a higher risk for serious medical complications, such as lung disease, diabetes, or general fatigue.

Two years after an infection, experts have found the mortality risk drops.

For patients who weren’t hospitalised by the killer virus, it takes just six months for the risk of death to no longer be significant, it added.

This group will still suffer the terrible side effects caused by the virus.

It said that those who did not end up at the hospital were more likely to suffer from over 20 different medical conditions.

These conditions include: diabetes, kidney problems, digestive issues, and cardiovascular disorders.

Study author Doctor Ziyad Al-Aly, an epidemiologist from Washington University, said: “A lot of people think, ‘I got Covid, I got over it and I’m fine.

“Maybe you’ve forgotten about the Covid… but Covid did not forget about you.

“It’s still wreaking havoc in your body.”

This study is based on medical records from almost 140.000 US Veterans who were initially diagnosed with Covid.

Scientists compared the veteran’s health data against a control group of almost six million who weren’t known to have been infected.

The study highlights that the sample group was not representative of the general population as veterans were older and mostly male.

A new Covid variation has appeared.

Dubbed BA2.86, the new Omicron spin-off comes hot on the heels of the EG5.1 “Eris” variant, which made its way onto the Covid stage in July.

UK Health Security statistics show that Eris is responsible for 15 % of cases reported in the UK.

In England, between August 6 and 12, there were 6,289 confirmed positive results.

The increase is 17.4 percent compared with the last seven days.

This sudden increase in cases is believed to be due to the poor July weather, which caused people to stay indoors and avoid ventilation.
