Warner Bros. Reports on 43 COVID Cases and LA Rate Spikes

Warner Bros. has reported 43 confirmed COVID-19 cases to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health due to an increase in COVID-19-related infections in California.

Burbank’s Warner Studios had Tuesday’s highest reported case count among Los Angeles businessesThis was in addition to other outbreaks at Dodger Stadium’s Smithfield Foods meatpacking facility in Vernon, Raytheon Technologies El Segundo and security and businesses at LAX/Burbank airports.

Warner Bros. did not comment further on the reports, but confirmed the cases.

The current reported seven-day average in new COVID cases stands at 5,375 while Monday’s daily count exceeded 8,000 for the first time since the Omicron surge in January. Due to increased use at-home testing that is rarely reported to county officials, the real number of infected Los Angeles residents could be much higher.

Barbara Ferrer, County Public Health Director, has stated that the county could reinstate the mandatory mask mandate as soon as July 29, if there are still high cases. If infection levels reach the threshold set by county protocols, the mask mandate must be reinstated. CDC classifies as “high”NiveauxLos Angeles County will be able to attain this level of community in less than two weeks.

“While we’re not seeing anywhere near the devastation this summer that we saw during last winter’s Omicron surge, we are seeing much higher case numbers than we saw during the peak of the Delta surge,”Ferrer made these remarks during Tuesday’s LA County Board of Supervisors meeting.

While the increase in COVID-related deaths and hospitalizations has not been as dramatic as in previous infection surges, the hospitalization count has risen from 1,200 to this week with 115 in intensive. Last week, the weekly COVID-19 death count exceeded 100 in Los Angeles for the first time since April.
