In an interview with Todayon January 18, Bertinelli said that their marriage broke down because of their naivete. “We weren’t really good to each other at a lot of points in our lives because we met so young and were very immature,”Hoda Kotb was interviewed by Bertinelli, who said Bertinelli and Van Halen were in touch. “went through a lot of hell”in their relationship. Bertinelli doesn’t regret loving Van Halen, and said that it was an honor to have been able to be with him. “to come to a beautiful place by the end of his life.”Bertinelli expressed her gratitude to Van Halen for their gift of Wolfgang. “I think that partly Wolfie is a soul mate of mine. When I think of soul mate, I think of souls that come here to experience this life on Earth together again and get to a higher place,” Bertinelli explained. She said, “I definitely, definitely know that was part of Ed. I loved his soul deeply.”
Van Halen’s passing has been a devastating blow to Wolfgang, but there have also been some positive moments, such as when he was nominated in November 2021 for a Grammy. This nomination was for “Distance,”Persisting a song he composed in memory of his father, per Variety.
