Tom Vaughan-Lawlor: From Theater Actor to MCU Villain
Tom Vaughan-Lawlor has an extensive background as a theater actor, appearing in several stage productions before making a name for himself on both the small and big screen. One of his most recognizable roles prior to portraying Ebony Maw was as Nigel “Nidge” Delaney in the Irish drama series “Love/Hate,” where he shared the screen with Killian Scott, who later joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in “Secret Invasion” as the Skrull, Pagon.
Vaughan-Lawlor’s Notable Roles
In addition to his role as Ebony Maw in “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” Vaughan-Lawlor starred in the 2017 film “Maze” as Provisional Irish Republican Army member Larry Marley, a pivotal figure in the infamous Maze Prison escape. He has also appeared in the British television war film “Danny Boy” and the ITV Cold War spy thriller “The Ipcress File,” showcasing his versatility as an actor.
The Fate of Ebony Maw in the MCU
While it’s uncertain if Vaughan-Lawlor will reprise his role as Ebony Maw in future MCU projects, the character’s storyline seemingly came to an end after his demise in “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.” Even in the alternate reality of “What If…?” Maw met a gruesome fate as a zombie in search of the Infinity Stones. Despite this, there is always a possibility for Marvel to creatively reintroduce a new version of the character for comedic effect or explore other dimensions where he may still exist. Otherwise, Vaughan-Lawlor’s time in the MCU may have concluded, unless he is given a dual role similar to some of his fellow MCU actors.
