Alleged Car Theft by Local Kids
With its blue lights still flashing, bystanders burst into fits of laughter as carnage unfolds. After ploughing several metres along the pavement, the car backs into a side street, bounces off a kerb and onto the road. The video is captioned: “Local kids steal a police car”. The clip of Sunday’s alleged carjacking has since gone viral on TikTok and been viewed over 2.5 million times.
Police Response and Investigation
Greater Manchester Police said it took place as an officer detained a 28-year-old man in a nearby shop following a pursuit in Kirkholt, Rochdale. A police spokesperson said a suspect allegedly involved in the cop car incident may have been identified and the force are investigating. The car was recovered by cops close to the scene a short time later. Greater Manchester Police are investigating Sunday’s incident.
Arrested Suspect Details
That suspect cops were arresting at the time of the alleged car theft was held for dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving without a licence and no insurance. They were cuffed on suspicion of possessing a bladed article, assault of an emergency worker, criminal damage and breach of a court order.
