UK rail strikes: Latest August train walkout dates confirm as Brits’ summer holiday plans fall into chaos

Saturday’s rail strikes regarding jobs and conditions were’solidly supported.

The strike of train drivers was “solidly supported”On Saturday, the Government and the unions clashed again over the bitter pay-, job- and conditions dispute.

As thousands of Aslef members staged a 24-hour walkout at seven train companies, commuters were subject to yet another day of misery.

Transport for Wales has offered the union a 6.6% raise, which it will give to its members.

Picket lines were set up outside train stations, and Aslef stated that strikers were receiving support.

Mick Whelan, General Secretary, clashed with Grant Shapps Transport Secretary Shapps accused of lying.

According to him, the strike was “solid today.” This shows the solidarity and determination of our members not to be bullied around by Grant Shapps and the Department for Transport and the train companies.

“After keeping Britain moving during a pandemic,” they expect their members to work, even if they haven’t had a pay increase since 2019, in order to avoid a pay cut.

“All we want is an increase in line to the increase in cost of living. Soaring inflation isn’t the fault for working people in the country. It’s the fault this government and its inept handling the UK economy.

“Shapps holds all the keys to this, but he is true to his word, he is blustering, diving, and ducking to blame everyone else for any problems he has caused.

“He could solve this in an instant by allowing the train companies to come to the table with a sensible offer and negotiate with us.”
