Saturday Air MailFord released an essay in which he expressed his feelings about the film after seeing it for the first time.

The film focuses on Patrizia Regigiani and Maurizio Gucci as they battle for control over the Gucci fashion house. The film was released Wednesday and stars Al Pacino, Salma Hayek and Jeremy Irons.

“The film is … well, I’m still not quite sure what it is exactly, but somehow I felt as though I had lived through a hurricane when I left the theater,”Ford started the essay. “Was it a farce or a gripping tale of greed? I often laughed out loud, but was I supposed to?”

Gucci’s creative director was Ford for twenty years, 1994-2004. He acknowledged that his opinions might be biased, as he had known Maurizio Guicci, the former head, of Gucci fashion brand. He vividly remembered his death on March 27, 1995.

Reeve Carney plays Ford in the film. He mentioned that a scene that featured Ford toasting Maurizio Gucci following Ford’s appointment as creative director did not happen.

Ford commended Driver for his achievements “subtle and nuanced performance,”But he noted that some of his costars were fighting “to see who can chew up the most scenery.”

“At times, when Al Pacino, as Aldo Gucci, and Jared Leto, as Aldo’s son Paolo Gucci, were on-screen, I was not completely sure that I wasn’t watching a ‘Saturday Night Live’ version of the tale,”He continued his essay.

Ford praised Lady Gaga as “the true star of the film,”It was claimed that “she steals the show.”
