Todd McFarlane ‘Spawn’ Movie Enlists ‘Captain America 4,’ ‘Joker’ Writers

Todd McFarlane’s “Spawn”Movie has hired three writers to help him with the script for his superhero movie.

Scott Silver (“Joker”), Malcolm Spellman (“Captain America: New World Order”According to a source familiar with the matter, Matt Mixon (a rising writer) has joined the project to help write the script that has been under development at Blumhouse since 2017.

McFarlane was the creator of Image comics’ character in 1992. He already wrote the script for the first draft. He suggested that he might not be able to direct the Blumhouse production.

“If we’ve got an A-list actor, A-list producers, A-list writers, then do you want to shoot for A-list directors, A-list cinematographers?” McFarlane reveals to The Hollywood Reporter who first reported the news. “The answer is, ‘of course.’ Let’s keep the momentum going.”

Todd McFarlane’s SPAWN character was always one of my favorites– a Black superhero that was no bullshit, he was cool and dealt with modern issues,”Spellman stated in a statement that he was. “Myself, Matt Mixon, and Scott Silver are pledged to honoring what Todd started and what SPAWN is at its core, delivering something that’s relevant and edgy and unlike any other superhero movie out there.”

Al Francis, a U.S. Marine serving in a CIA Black Ops unit, is shot and killed during battle. He is then sent to hell for his war crime. In exchange for his right to see his spouse again, he sells the soul of his wife to a demon. Spawn transforms into a demonic fighter, Spawn. He fights to regain the control of his mind and destiny while being torn between evil and good.

This will be the second Spawn film, following the 1997 adaptation starring Michael Jai White in the title role. Mark A.Z. directed the film. Dippe directed it. It was the first superhero film that didn’t feature a comic actor to play the lead.

Spawn was an antihero of the 1990s and one of the most beloved comic book characters. The 1997 film was followed by a six-season animated series on HBO starring Keith David. It earned an Emmy nomination as Outstanding Animation Program.

CAA represents Silver. Industry Entertainment and CAA rep Spellman. Manager Heller High Water represents Mixon.
