Ti West’s Pearl Trailer is Debut, Expanding the World of X

Ti West’s “X,” released this past March, was one of the year’s biggest surprises. The art house darlings, A24, released it. It used the rough framework from horror classics past like “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre,”As a prism to examine the impact of cinema amid emergence of pornography, especially as it relates age. West revealed that he had secretly shot a prequel film within the week before the movie was released theatrically. “X’s” production in New Zealand and, what’s more, this new film, called “Pearl,”We expect it to be available very soon. And, thanks to a blood-splattered new trailer, we know that it will be here very soon indeed — Sept. 16.

The official synopsis “Pearl” reads: “Trapped on her family’s isolated farm during the 1918 pandemic, Pearl must tend to her ailing father under the bitter and overbearing watch of her devout mother. Lusting for a glamorous life like she’s seen in the movies. Pearl’s ambitions, temptations, and repressions all collide, in the stunning, technicolor-inspired origin story of ‘X’s’ iconic villain.”Mia Goth, who co-wrote the screenplay, is back to play Pearl.

The trailer includes multiple references to the original film. This includes the opening shot of a fence opening in front of the farmhouse, the alligator swimming in the lagoon behind it, and the discussion about the introduction pornographic films. It’s also extremely violent, with people being stabbed and set on fire, then detonated.
