The person asking the question said that they were asleep on a flight and that they had to go without food. However, he wondered if this was normal.

They inquired: “My mother was on an international flight to the United States.

“It had been dinner and we were both falling asleep, so we were skipped. She called the flight attendants to get us back on the plane.

“Are you guys not supposed to disturb us? I’m not mad about that I’m just curious.”

A number of flight attendants replied to the question, explaining they were expected to let passengers snooze even though it was during meal service.

One said: “Flight attendants aren’t supposed to wake you up.

“A lot of people actually don’t want to be disturbed during the flight and they would be highly annoyed if we did.”

Another writer wrote: “Surveys reveal that almost half of travellers want rest.

“How would you feel if you settled into a good sleep for someone to wake you up for a coke and a Biscoff?”

For those who enjoy both eating and sleeping during flights, however, it doesn’t mean you have to choose between them.

According to flight attendants, meals are often left for those who don’t eat dinner until the morning.

One of them said: “If a flight attendant skips you because you were sleeping and you still want to be served, we just expect you to let us know and we will gladly bring you your meal or drink/snack.”

Another tip: “If you plan to sleep but want the meal/snack/pretzels, put your tray table down. We’ll leave your items without waking you.”

Most people love to sleep on flights but cabin crew may not be keen to hear about the sleeping habits of some passengers.

Arina, a flight attendant, stated that many passengers take sleeping pills so they can sleep on board.

However, she cautioned that you should not do it because it may not be obvious that you are asleep and it could lead to cabin crew shock.

She saidInsider:

“I tried shaking him to get him awake, but he didn’t respond. So I panicked and called my colleagues.

“I was about asking for a medical professional to perform first aid or board, but it turned out that the passenger was a heavy-sleeper and had taken sleeping pills.

“You might not want to scare your crew by taking drowsy medication on a flight.”

Another flight attendant explained what passengers shouldn’t do while eating plane food.

According to Ryanair cabin crew, this is the food you should avoid.
