Are you looking for something new to stream on Netflix? We’ve got you covered. There are three new high-profile movies streaming on Netflix in October, each with their own unique and bone-chilling stories. But if you’re not in the mood for something spooky, there are a number of other excellent films newly streaming on Netflix this month. Whether you’re up for a historical epic, a classic rom-com or a true crime drama, there’s a little something for everyone.

Mr. and Ms. Smith
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are married assassins – unbeknownst to each other – in “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.”The 2005 action comedy features a clever premise. Jolie and Pitt play a married pair who are unaware they each work as contract killers by day. But when they’re each tasked with killing each other, they must navigate a duty to their job this new layer to their relationship. “The Bourne Identity” and “Edge of Tomorrow”Doug Liman, a filmmaker, directs with an eye toward mixing comedy and action. The chemistry between Pitt (obviously) is palpable.
Runaway Bride
If you’re looking for a good old fashioned rom-com – especially with Julia Roberts’ return to the genre coming up with “Ticket to Paradise” – “Runaway Bride”It’s a great watch. Roberts plays a woman who runs out at her weddings, and is being profiled now by Richard Gere. And wouldn’t you know it? They begin to fall in love. Will she make the altar or fly? Even if you know the answer, Roberts’ charisma makes this 1998 comedy an exceedingly pleasant watch.
Gladiator
If you’re in the mood for something epic and rousing, Ridley Scott’s Best Picture-winning “Gladiator”Over two decades later, it still holds true to its original form. Russell Crowe plays a Roman General, who is defeated by Joaquin Phoenix (his own son). His family is murdered and he’s exiled to become a gladiator, fighting to sport. He fights the man who destroyed his life and claws his way to Rome. Entertainment – and some incredible acting – ensues. Hans Zimmer’s score also rules.
The Ocean’s Trilogy
Is there any more fun, breezy, and free-wheeling film trio than this? “Ocean’s Eleven?” Steven Soderbergh’s original film is a star-powered, hilarious heist that is an absolute blast to behold. The best thing about this series is the way each film is different. “Ocean’s Twelve”This shifts the film’s location to Europe. It offers up a European style and meta-textual narrative about how the pressure is on them to finish the first film. And “Ocean’s Thirteen”Is the “This Time It’s Personal”The series takes us back to Vegas, with Al Pacino playing the antagonist. These movies are great. “feel-good” picks.
The School for Good and Evil
“Bridesmaids,” “Spy” “Ghostbusters”Paul Feig, a filmmaker, tries his hand in fantasy with the Netflix original “The School for Good and Evil,”Streaming begins Oct. 19. The story is based on Soman Chainani’s book. It follows two teenagers who are sent to an actual school for good or evil. Both the straight-laced friend and the more adventurous friend are sent to the School for Evil while the School for Good sends them both to their respective schools. Charlize Washington and Kerry Washington head the ensemble cast.
The Good Nurse
True crime is a hot topic, and Netflix gives it a dramatic new twist. “The Good Nurse,”On Oct. 26, streaming online Eddie Redmayne plays a secretly murdered nurse, and Jessica Chastain is the colleague who tries to catch him for his crimes. Tobias Lindholm (“Another Round,” “The Hunt”Krysty Wilson Cairns wrote the screenplay.“1917,” “Last Night in Soho”).
Wendell & Wild
Henry Selick still lives! The legendary stop-motion filmmaker, who is responsible for the perennial classic “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” hasn’t made a feature since 2009’s Oscar-nominated “Coraline.” But he’s finally back with a brand-new feature, “Wendell & Wild,”Produced, co-written and starring Jordan Peele. Available for streaming on Oct. 28. The movie features Peele and Keegan Michael Key, his long-time creative partner. They play two demons who trick their way into the world through their relationship with Lyric Ross (a young girl). A more complex and thoughtful version. “Beetlejuice,” “Wendell & Wild” is crafted with Selick’s trademark handcrafted ghoulishness (he says his movies “scare not scar”) and will undoubtedly become another Halloween classic.
