The Woman King, Luck and More

As summer TV and film premieres are in full swing, a few upcoming releases dropped new or first trailers this week, and we’ve rounded them all up in one post.

After a June with a lot of premieres, the trailers for TV and film shows that were coming to theaters or homes in the following months began to roll out. “Reservation Dogs”Season 2 released its first trailer before the premiere on August 3. Meanwhile, stacked casts are starting to excite audiences for the premieres of fall movies, including Robert De Niro and Christian Bale.

We also got our first look at Ethan Hawke’s upcoming docuseries “The Last Movie Stars,”Sundance-selected films are finally available in theaters and on streaming services.

Rap Sh!t

“Insecure” creator Issa Rae has developed another project, and Rae’s latest comedy “Rap Sh!t”First trailer released ahead of the premiere on July 21st. Aida Osman (comedian, writer) will portray Shawna the aspiring rapper. “Love and Hip Hop: Miami’s”KaMillion and Mia Rae hires her former colleagues “Insecure”Syreeta Soloton, the project’s showrunner, will be accompanied in this role by JT from City Girls and Yung Miami, executive producers.

Reservation Dogs

FX’s breakout hit, “Reservation Dogs” tells the story four Indigenous teens as they plan their great departure from their Oklahoma reservation to California. Co-created by Taika Waititi and Sterlin Harjo, the series stars Devery Jacobs, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Paulina Alexis, Lane Factor, Elva Guerra, Wes Studi and Megan Mullally. The highly acclaimed series second season will premiere August 3, on both FX and Hulu.

Amsterdam

David O. Russell, writer and director, is back after seven long years “Amsterdam.”The film’s inspiration comes loosely from a 1930s true tale. The movie follows three friends who witness a crime and become suspects. It will be released in theaters on Nov. 4. David O. Russell’s films have a reputation for featuring a star-studded cast.“Silver Linings Playbook,” “American Hustle,” “The Fighter”), and “Amsterdam” fits the bill with a cast including longtime collaborators Christian Bale and Robert De Niro, as well as John David Washington, Margot Robbie, Alessandro Nivola, Andrea Riseborough, Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Rock, Matthias Schoenaerts, Michael Shannon, Mike Myers, Taylor Swift, Zoe Saldaña and Rami Malek.

Emily the Criminal

Aubrey Plaza’s latest film “Emily the Criminal”The film premiered at Sundance’s January film festival, and will be wide-released theatrically on August 12. Plaza portrays Emily in writer-director John Patton Ford’s latest thriller. Plaza’s character joins a black-market shopping scheme in order to pay off her student loans. As Emily’s purchases and sales become more valuable, her character finds herself in a terrifying situation. Plaza stars alongside Megalyn Echikunwoke, Theo Rossi and Gina Gersh.

Better Call Saul Season 6 Part 2

“Better Call Saul”It will close its last chapter on July 11. After a six-week hiatus the “Breaking Bad”AMC+ and AMC+ will host the spinoff Monday at 9:00 PM ET/PT. They will also air the series finale on Aug 15. The sixth and final series was split into two separate parts. The first seven episodes aired earlier this year. This conclusion chronicles how Jimmy became Saul Goldman and created offices of Saul Goodman & Associates to Los Pollos Hermanos.

A love song

Another Sundance selection features two childhood sweethearts, as they reunite and “journey across the rugged West.” “A Love Song”Stars Dale Dickey as Faye “Reservation Dogs’”Wes Studi plays Lito as he searches for his love interest. The Bleeker Street indie movie will premiere in theaters on July 29.

The Woman King

Viola Davis’ latest film, “The Woman King,”This September will see a lot of premieres and a fall of many films. The historical epic tells the story of an 18th-century African kingdom. Davis stars. Nanisca (Davis), protector of the Kingdom at Dahomey and leader of an all-female army of warriors. John Boyega, Lashana Lynch and Lashana Mbedu star in the film.

Paper Girls

Based on the graphic book of the same title “Paper Girls”The story tells about four young newspaper delivery girls. “caught in the crossfire between warring time-travelers,”Completely changing their lives. “Paper Girls”Stars Ali Wong, comedian, and Sofia Rosinsky. Sundance’s third film, which just released a trailer, is set for wide release. “Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul.”Sterling K. Brown plays Trinitie Childs while Regina Hall stars as Trinitie Childs. The comedy will debut in both theaters as well as on Peacock September 2.

Light & Magic

Disney+ will premiere the highly anticipated docuseries “Light & Magic” focusing on filmmaker George Lucas and his creation of Industrial Light & Magic (ILM). Lucas’ production company Lucasfilm developed the visual effects division that fundamentally changed the trajectory of film history, urging filmmakers to experiment and develop stories with the magic of special effects. “Light & Magic” will feature interviews with Ron Howard, producer Lawrence Kasdan, and VFX masters Dennis Muren, Phil Tippett, Joe Johnston, and Rose Duignan. The six episodes of the docuseries will be released exclusively on Disney+, Wednesday July 27th.

You are a lucky person

AppleTV+ will release the animated feature movie “Luck”August 5. The story centers on Sam (Eva Noblezada), an unlucky girl who falls into luck and fortune in an attempt to preserve her lucky streak. Alongside Eva Noblezada, “Luck” stars Jane Fonda, Whoopi Goldberg, Simon Pegg, Flula Borg, Lil Rel Howery, Colin O’Donoghue, John Ratzenberger and Adelynn Spoon.

The Last Movie Stars

Ethan Hawke’s upcoming docuseries, “The Last Movie Stars,” retrospectively reflects on the lives of one of Hollywood’s most iconic couples, Paul Newman and Joanna Woodward. The documentary focuses on the love story of the couple and their remarkable careers. It also includes interviews with Newman and Woodward as well as Karen Allen (George Clooney), Oscar Isaac, LaTanya Rickson Jackson, Zoe Kazan, Laura Linney, Sam Rockwell, and Zoe Kazan. “The Last Movie Stars”Six episodes will be aired on HBO Max starting July 21st

Season for Weddings

A new Netflix rom-com will soon be available on the streaming site. “Wedding Season”The film stars Pallavi Sharda playing Asha and Suraj Sharma playing Ravi. It follows their relationship as they pretend to be on a date. Ravi and Asha agree to be happy couples at a season of weddings, in order to appease their parents. The cast of “Wedding Season” includes Arianna Afsar, Sean Kleier, Veena Sood, Manoj Sood, and Sonia Dhillon Tully. Netflix will release “Wedding Season”Thursday August 4.
