The Top Quiet Thanksgiving Box Office Keeps ‘Wakanda forever’

Marvel’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” The Thanksgiving Box Office is doing well, and even surpassing other Disney films. “Strange World.”

The superhero sequel to the original hit Thanksgiving brought in $8.1million. On Friday, $18.2 million in additional ticket sales added to that haul. “Wakanda Forever” This is the most successful box office story of this season. Its domestic gross will surpass $350M by Sunday.

Overall, it’s been a fairly dire weekend for theaters. The five-day frame is projected to net $125.4 million in ticket sales across all releases, down 12% from last year’s Thanksgiving weekend — which had the additional hicap of arriving during a period of heightened COVID-19 precautions. This year’s crop of films aren’t connecting as strongly as offerings last year like “Encanto” and “House of Gucci.”‘

Case in point: Disney’s new release “Strange World” On Friday, the film made $5.2million and its domestic total climbed to $11.8million. That’s a terrible kickoff for the animated film, opening in a prime holiday window with kids out of school and weighted by an $180 million production budget to recoup.

“Strange World” Received solid approvals from critics. Variety Peter Debruge, chief film critic and author of this article “The world may be super-weird, but those who populate it are some of the most realistic and well rounded that Walt Disney Animation Studios has ever presented.” The film received a modest response from the audience, but it was not enough to make them excited. “B” CinemaScore. That’s not encouraging for the film’s prospects moving into December.

Theatres could be getting a sneaky boost “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” The film was released by Netflix in 600 theaters over a one-week period. Although the streamer has limited supply and is taking its first attempt at marketing major theatrical engagements, it seems that the movie is doing well. Competition predicts a silent third-place finish. Netflix doesn’t report theatrical gross.

The on-the-books bronze winner for the weekend will be Sony’s aviation drama “Devotion,” Glen Powell and Jonathan Majors star in the film. Projections for the film’s five-day run are $9.2 Million.

Searchlight Pictures’ “The Menu” Still chugging along, still earning $2million on Friday. It is possible that the fourth-place finish will be achieved by this culinary comedy.

Warner Bros.’ DC feature “Black Adam” The sixth weekend of its release saw $4.5 Million added to its top five. That’d still be enough to land above two new awards hopefuls: United Artists Releasing and MGM’s “Bones and All” and Universal’s “The Fabelmans.” With their expanded versions, neither film makes much noise. “Bones and All” Over the course of five days, $3.461 million will be projected from 2,727 locations. “The Fabelmans” The average cost per theater is $3.1 million, which includes 638 venues.
