Television adaptation of “The Many Daughters of Afong Moy” in development

Based on the best-selling novel “The Many Daughters of Afong Moy”UCP is working on this.

The novel is written by Jamie Ford and follows Dorothy Moy, a former poet laureate who deals with her emotional issues through her art. Moy finds herself suddenly confronting her past, according to a press release. “when her five-year-old daughter exhibits similar behavior and begins remembering things from the lives of their ancestors.”

“Fearing that her child is predestined to endure the same debilitating depression that has marked her own life, Dorothy seeks radical help,”The release continues. “Through an experimental treatment designed to mitigate inherited trauma, Dorothy intimately connects with past generations of women in her family. As painful recollections affect her present life, Dorothy discovers that trauma isn’t the only thing she’s inherited. A stranger is searching for her in each time period. A stranger who’s loved her through all of her genetic memories.”

It was also voted the No. 1 Indie Next List pick for August 2022.

Ford’s debut novel, “Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet,”Two years on New York Times Bestseller List. Later, he won the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature in 2010.
