Susanna Reid Emotionally Holds Back Tears as Families Plead Against Nottingham Stabbing – What Have We Done to Deserve This?

Exclusive: The Heartbreaking Interview with Barnaby’s Grieving Parents

GMB’s Susanna Reid held back tears today as she spoke to the parents of Nottingham attack victim Barnaby Webber.

He and Grace O’Malley-Kumar, both 19, were stabbed to death last year by Valdo Calocane on their way home from a night out.

**Barnaby’s Tragic Murder**

Calocane, a paranoid schizophrenic, went on to kill 65-year-old caretaker Ian Coates during the June 13 rampage.

Speaking to Good Morning Britain, David and Emma Webber asked “why us?” as they recalled the nightmare of losing their son.

The Insulting Sentencing: The Webber’s Anguish

Calocane, 32, was last week sentenced to an indefinite hospital order after admitting manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

But the triple killer’s ruling was slammed as “insulting” by Barnaby’s parents who are now calling for a public enquiry.

**The Devastating Impact on the Family**

Calocane had travelled up from London before being caught on camera walking around the streets of Nottingham.

CCTV showed University of Nottingham students Barnaby and Grace walking home just moments before they were fatally stabbed in Ilkeston Road just after 4am.

Ian Coates was later found dead with knife injuries in Magdala Road after his van was stolen.

The killer then drove the van at pedestrians Wayne Birkett, Marcin Gawronski and Sharon Miller in Milton Street and Upper Parliament Street, in the city centre.

**The Lax Authorities and Urgent Review**

Calocane – who holds a mechanical engineering degree from Nottingham Uni – had been sectioned four times, yet appeared to dupe experts and was allowed to only occasionally meet psychosis teams.

An urgent review has been launched into how he slipped through the net of the authorities.

Overall, the tragic story of Barnaby and Grace serves as a reminder of how precious life is and how the justice system must be strengthened to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
