Stranger Things makeup artist opens up on Eddie Munson’s tattoos and his tragic fate

A makeup artist who worked for Stranger Things explained the inspiration behind Eddie Munson, a fan favorite character, and his tattoos.

Since the release of the final episodes of season 4, speculations have been rumbling online. These include whether Eddie’s ink had anything to do with predicting the future – and his tragic fate.

Netflix viewers around the globe mourned Eddie’s passing. The end of season 2 showed the metalhead willing to sacrifice himself for his friends and Hawkins. This was quite a contrast to Brit Joseph Quinn’s role at the beginning of season 4. After a fellow student has been found dead, Eddie hides from the world in our first interactions.

As hardcore fans still remain in denial over Eddie’s permanent passing in Stranger Things, sleuths, in a bid to find answers, came up with ideas. One being Eddie Munson’s tattoos or ink actually predicted his fate.

A makeup artist now explains the ink’s meaning and what it means.

Eddie Munson’s tattoo inspiration

Amy L Forsythe, Stranger Things’ makeup artist, told Insider They had ‘no idea’ Eddie would perform Metallica’s Master of Puppets in the epic Vecna-fighting and Upside Down chaotic finale episode.

The Emmy-nominated artist helped design the puppet master ink for Eddie’s forearm and was inspired by Vecna.

She said that many of the things that make up a character are not revealed. “all about details”. Even though viewers may not see it at home, this is true. Amy explains Eddie had tattoos in the script, but the makeup department wasn’t aware if anyone would see them because of his jacket.

“So we thought: what would someone who we know back then have that you might never see in school, but then you meet this person three years later, and you see their tattoos finally?”Amy explained.

“The puppet-master tattoo was a nod to Vecna — how he controls people and pulls them up from the ground,”She continued.

“I had no idea ‘Master of Puppets’ was going to be played.”

Eddie sings the Metallica song in order to distract the aggressive demobats and help the team defeat Vecna. Fans later watch in horror as the tragic cause of Eddie’s death is revealed.

And his ink featuring bats weren’t designed for his death, but actually were inspired by Steve Harrington’s close call with the demobats in a previous episode.

Joseph Quinn was instrumental in selecting the designs

The show’s viewers are enamored with the tatts.

Amy added: “As a heavily-tattooed person, it’s wild to see.

“I knew people were going to resonate with the Eddie character. But seeing people go to the next level and get his tattoos, make fan art, and use that as inspiration to create full sleeves of Stranger Things – it’s just really fun.”

The artist also told the outlet how Joseph Quinn helped pick out the bloody skull head on Eddie’s chest.
