Sondi Carter, Vince Carter’s wife, was a competitive gymnast and is now an elite trainer: Inside their family

It is common for successful couples to share similarities in their work and personal lives. In the case of Vince Carter’s husband, Sondi Carter (retired basketball star), this seems to be the case. Sondi was once a competitive gymnast but, after having children, she became an elite coach.

Vince Carter was a former professional basketball player before he joined ESPN as a sports analyst.

Vince Carter’s wife, Sondi Carter, has an impressive résumé proving that she knows her onions. Here are the facts about the former gymnast.

Who Is Sondi Carter?

Aside from her role as the wife of a prominent sports analyst, she is also an elite trainer at the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

Prior to her NASM certification as a personal coach, Sondi enjoyed gymnastic and being competitive. Sondi worked hard to be a National Champion college leader.

In addition to her athleticism she is a credible strength and condition specialist, who has been certified by National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Sondi Was a Competitive Gymnast

Sondi’s titles are a clear indication of her dedication to her work, since they come from well-known organizations. According to her Share Care bio, Sondi was certified by the American Heart Association in CPR/AED.

A trained counselor and trainer, she has worked with people with different bodies, sizes, and fitness levels. The former gymnast has gained knowledge from many institutions over the years.

She began her studies in psychology at University of Maryland, College Park. After that, she transferred to Teachers College Columbia University and earned a master of Science degree in applied nutrition physiology.

Sondi continued her search for nutrition and body knowledge. She interned at Altheus Health & Performance Centre in Westchester County.

According to her bio she has always wanted to be fit since childhood. The retired gymnast knows the benefits of a healthy diet and a regular exercise routine. Her bio Reads:

Vince and Sondi, parents of two children

Sondi and her husband have two children, Vincent Lamar Carter Jr. and a girl whose identity has been withheld.

But these aren’t the only children for the ESPN analyst. Vince is also the father to Kai Michelle Carter. Kai Michelle Carter was his college sweetheart and was born to Ellen Rucker, a chiropractor.

They were married for two years. In 2006, the couple divorced and moved on. Today Rucker is the wife of Bakari Sellers, CNN correspondent. They share two children and run a blended family with Kai, 17 years old.

Sondi, Vince, and their relationship have been very private. This is despite their success and public careers. His Instagram handle doesn’t show any family photos. However, his wife has a private Instagram with less than 4000 followers.

After a visit to the Jill Carmel Photography website, fans were able to witness some wonderful family moments despite their secrecy. Famous photographer, Jill Carmel Photography captured the family at their home last Christmas with their son and their dogs.

Carmel described it to be a happy session. They shot the footage in various corners of the house, including near the Christmas tree and the dock by the river.

Sondi is frightened by Burglary at their Home

After the family had taken charming Christmas photos for several months, burglars broke into their home. Sondi was at home with the children when the intruders entered their home at 11:50 pm.

The police arrived on the scene just minutes after the call. According to reports, the suspects in black masks fled the scene in an SUV and evaded arrest.

Vince claimed that about $100,000 was taken from his house, though nobody was hurt. Sources confirm that police are still investigating the crime and have yet to arrest Vince.

Vince Carter Retirement

Vince, a Florida native and NBA star for over 20 years, has announced his retirement in June 2020. He was 6 feet 6 inches tall and played on eight teams throughout his distinguished career.

After starting his career with Toronto Raptors, he moved to New Jersey Nets and Orlando Magic before moving on to the Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks (New Jersey Nets), Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings, and Dallas Mavericks. After playing for Atlanta Hawks, he decided to retire.

After a labor dispute, the first season of the basketball star was cut to fifty games. His final season was also cut short by the 2020 pandemic.

His last match with the team occurred in March 2020, when the team lost to the New York Knicks. In the same year, the Atlanta Hawks were absent at the Disney complex in Florida to resume NBA play. The retired basketball star spoke about his final time playing. Observe:

“It’s kind of a cool situation for me because I came into the league on a shortened season, and I walk away from the league on a shortened season. So for me, it’s just kind of a unique situation.”
