Sky Sports in yet another cut as popular presenter Kate Mason leaves channel

Fan favourite presenter Kate Mason has announced she is leaving Sky Sports News, as the TV channel continues to cut familiar personnel.

And Mason posted a video to her social accounts to explain her absence from the channel, revealing that her contract was not extended upon expiration.

She said, on people asking when she will next be on: “The answer is I’m not going to be on because I’ve been working there for two years, and my contract came to an end.

“Unfortunately, they decided not to extend it, which is something I’m really sad about at the time. Some of the work that I did there was really special to me.

In July, Sky announced they were bracing themselves for major cutbacks across their channels.

A spokesperson said: “We are proposing to reshape Sky Sports and Sky Sports News for the future.

“This may result in some roles being made redundant, and the creation of some new roles. We are now entering a period of consultation, and will be discussing our proposed changes with our people.”

Familiar faces had already begun to disappear from the newsroom over the summer.

Jim White was one of the most notable to leave when he moved to talkSPORT full time, with his colleague Laura Woods taking on another role at DAZN.

“I’m sure that we’ll work together again at some point in the future.

“In terms of what I’ll be doing now, I’ll be doing lots of live sports the Super League Triathlon… there are lots of football things coming up.”
