ShopRite will remain open on Memorial Day 2024. The supermarket will also be open all weekend long, including Saturday, May 25, and Sunday, May 26. Almost all ShopRite locations will also operate during normal business hours on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 2024. Stores will open at 6 am or 7 am and close at 9 pm, 10 pm, or 11 pm. Select ShopRite locations will remain open 24 hours a day. Just to be safe, shoppers should check their store’s hours ahead of time to ensure ShopRite will be open when they need to purchase any last-minute items for their barbecue, picnic, or cookout needs. Some stores, for instance, may be limiting their pickup and delivery orders on Memorial Day or may have longer wait times over the weekend.

ShopRite was created in 1946, when a Del Monte Foods sales representative convinced a few local grocers in Newark, New Jersey to try cooperative buying. Retailers’ cooperatives receive discounts from manufacturers by buying items in bulk, and often share marketing expenses to drive down operational costs. ShopRite was launched under the name of Wakefern Food Corp. on December 5, 1946. The name change came in 1951, and by 1961, ShopRite totaled over $100 million in annual sales. Today, each ShopRite location is relatively unique, with no set store design or aesthetic, the result of the cooperative. Still, most stores operate under similar hours and sell their items at the same prices. As of May 2024, ShopRite has locations in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
