Shocking: Amazon Driver Scheme Used to Kidnap Baby in Washington – Police Investigation Underway

Florida Couple Arrested for Kidnapping Cousin’s Baby After Posing as Amazon Driver – Shocking Details Unveiled

Couple Arrested for Kidnapping Infant Daughter – Crafted Complex Scheme

A Florida couple has been arrested in Washington state following a series of charges brought against them for an elaborate scheme that involved kidnapping their cousin’s infant daughter. Marlly Jarina Ardila-Urrego, 33, and her husband, Chun Ho Vincent Lai, 42, were taken into custody on I-90 in Washington state after authorities uncovered their intricate plan involving abduction, burglary, and assault.

Unusual Case Unfolds

Senior Deputy Prosecutor Jennifer Phillips, in charges filed against the couple, described the case as “extraordinarily unusual,” as reported by the Seattle Times.

Drive Across States to Execute Plan

The couple, who reside in Lake Worth Beach, Florida, made the long journey to the apartment of Ardila-Urrego’s cousin, who had recently given birth to a baby girl. Their visit was not a friendly one, as Phillips alleged that Ardila-Urrego and Lai traveled specifically to Washington with the intention of forcefully taking the infant.

Disguised as an Amazon Driver

According to the charging document cited by The Seattle Times, on Feb. 20, after Ardila-Urrego’s cousin mentioned an upcoming delivery of a bed frame for the baby’s sibling, Lai, disguised as an Amazon delivery driver, carried out the assault, restrained the victim, and left her in a room with her 2-year-old child while Ardila-Urrego entered the apartment and abducted the baby.

Quick Action Leads to Rescue

Upon realizing her baby was missing, the mother sought help from a neighbor, who then contacted emergency services. Consequently, the couple was apprehended along I-90 within hours, with the baby in their possession. Fortunately, the baby was unharmed during the incident.

Serious Charges Laid Against the Couple

Both Ardila-Urrego and Lai face severe charges including first-degree kidnapping, robbery, burglary, and assault. They were accused of forcibly entering the family’s apartment, taking the infant and several electronic devices. Additionally, they were charged with second-degree assault for harming the mother and the baby’s sibling.

Legal Consequences and Further Investigation

The couple is currently in custody with a $750,000 bond each, and no court dates have been set yet. While no clear motive has been specified in the charging papers, it is believed that the family was targeted because of their association with the defendants and having children.

Ongoing Legal Proceedings

There has been no mention of the defendants’ plea or legal representation status. Efforts to obtain comments from the Kings County Prosecutors Office and details from the King County Criminal Courts have been unsuccessful thus far.
