In 2022, there were a slew of sightings and shark attacks in the United States.
Unexpected shark attacks caused horrific injuries in people all over the country, from New York to California.

The third shark attack in the United States was reported on February 27, 2022 from San Miguel Island (California).
A group of divers set out to search for scallops, lobsters and other marine life off San Miguel Island on Sunday.
One swimmer, who was unambiguously identified as Diver One, saw a shark while returning to their designated dive boat.
The female diver who was not identified told Tracking Sharks“As soon I saw the white, my head lifted to see the distance the boat was.
“As I lifted my head, I saw the large dorsal fin going by which was much larger than my head.”
Diver One further shared: “Then it happened so fast … all I remember is the wide-open mouth, bright white rows of triangular teeth, and the mouth so wide that I could no longer see her eye.
“A circle of teeth I believe remained open until it felt something in their mouths.
“The rest was so fast that I don’t even remember seeing the mouth close, just the sensation of the fins popping off and then seeing the head of the shark with fins in its mouth.”
The majority of shark attacks are read by the victims
After she had alerted them, the other members of their party were able quickly to rescue the diver.
Paramedics rushed the diver to the hospital after he bit her foot.
The injuries to her foot were reduced to a level 3 trauma at the hospital. She left with six stitches and antibiotics.
The California shark attack was one of 26 incidents that have been recorded so far in 2022.
These incidents took place in Florida’s Dry Tortugas, Cocoa Beach and Cocoa Beach.
Three separate encounters were had with the dangerous creatures at the same Florida spot, New Smyrna Beach in March.
Another Florida resident was bitten by a shark while fishing on Lake Worth Beach.
The dangerous sea dwellers were responsible in the months that followed for additional attacks in South Carolina and New York, Alabama, California, and California.
On Wednesday, July 13, there were two shark attacks at New York’s Smith Point and Seaview Beach. Both are located in New York’s Long Island region.
Shawn Donnely from Arizona was the victim. The other swimmer, however, was not identified because both incidents were non-fatal.
Donnely, a survivor of the attack, was recalled to NBC4: “It got to my left calf, knocked my off my board…When I was falling off my boards, I saw the fin’s back.
“I just had to take a second. I looked — my arms were there, my legs were there, I was like ‘I’m okay.'”
Steve Bellone, Suffolk County Executive, warned Long Island swimmers that two incidents at the beach were unheard of.
“So, to have a second instance like this is certainly not something we would anticipate.
“I think it is an indication, however, that we’re looking at is something of a new normal in that sharks, these tiger sharks, are just a little bit too close to the shore.”
Two swimmers were also bitten by sharks on Saturday, 16 July.
Tasa Summers from Ohio, 40, was on vacation in Daytona Beach when she was bit by a mosquito.
Another beachgoer was an angler, who was too close to the shark in Florida Keys.
How can I prevent a shark attack from happening?
Experts have listed several ways that swimmers can avoid being attacked by the dangerous sea creature.
Experts in marine life say that sharks can hear low-frequency sounds so it is important to avoid excessive splashing in one place.
Sharks might associate noises with distressing prey, such as when they hear a lot of splashing.
Sharks won’t attack groups of people. They prefer to strike a single swimmer, so make sure you have a lot of friends.
Shiny jewelry, also known as fish scales, can cause an attack on those wearing it. It’s best to stay out of the water and not wear it.
Swimmers who swim too far from the shore may be without immediate assistance. Beachgoers are advised to stay close to the shore.
