Ron S. Peno’s death confirmed by bandmates

Peno’s oesophageal tumor was diagnosed earlier.

Ron S. Peno died. He was 68. Peno was confirmed dead by bandmates who paid tribute in a Facebook post. The message of the band started: “With great sorrow, we announce the death of our singer Ron S Peno, who passed peacefully away on Friday night in South Yarra Melbourne in the company of his beloved wife Charity and son Zebadiah.”

The band continued in their joint statement: “During the past four-and-a-half years, Ron battled against cancer with a positive attitude and an incredible depth of character, which has been inspirational for his bandmates, manager, and friends.” In the face of difficulty, he stood tall. Ron never lacked charisma during the 40 years he spent as Died Pretty frontman. For those who were on stage with him, and his audience alike, he has left a lasting impression. He is the soundtrack to many people’s lives. We will cherish his extraordinary recordings for years to come. “Our hearts are with Charity, Zebadiah, and his friends and family at this difficult time.”

Died Pretty continued with “Ron is sorely missed.” It will be less of a world without him. Died Pretty, Ron’s Family and St Vincent’s Hospital would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the palliative teams at Calvary Bethlehem and Support Act for all of Ron’s support and donations. Peno was birthed in Gosford in Australiam, New South Wales in 1955. In his teens, he began to play in bands and discovered music. Peno was a member of three bands in his youth: The Hellcats (from 1976-77), The 31st, (1979-81), Screaming Tribesmen. Peno co-founded Died Pretty with his brother in 1983.

Brett Myers of Died Pretty, the only original member still alive, has spoken out in regards to Peno. He said, “He is born to sing.” He was the first person I ever worked with who is like that. He continued, “He is unpredictable and contradictory and burned brightly. I doubt we will ever see another like him.” He also said that Peno’s cancer diagnosis never affected his motivation. I met him two weeks back and, despite his cancer diagnosis, he never lost motivation.
