Authorities have arrested three UVA football players and students after they were shot by a former football player and student. The incident occurred while they were returning from a play during a class field trip in Washington D.C.
Those killed were Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr., and D’Sean Perry.
A vigil was held on campus, attended by thousands of students, and community members to remember those who had lost their lives. New York Post.
The UVA football team’s former director of relations Jordan Bullock spoke to the New York Post.
“It’s a void that we will feel for a long time. This team is very, very close,”Bullock. “To lose one is tragic, to lose three is just devastating.”
Devin Chandler, a wide receiver on the UVA football team, was originally from Huntersville in North Carolina. According to his athletic reports, he went to college in Wisconsin and then made his way to UVA. Profil.

Hamilton posted kind words about Chandler on Twitter following the tragedy.
Chandler was described as “an unbelievably nice person, always a huge smile, really gregarious and funny. one of those people who’s just impossible not to like,”Hamilton tweeted the following.
Lavel Davis Jr. was also an important receiver for the team. He had been named Comeback Player Of The Year earlier in the year. According to his athletics, Davis was from Dorchester (South Carolina) and was a junior at UVA. Profil.

“One thing that struck me about [Davis] was how much his classmates liked him and vice versa. in my experience star athletes often tend to hang out with other athletes (understandable, given the time commitment) but vel seemed to go out of his way to make friends with non-athletes,”Hamilton said this in a Tweet.
Heather Mitchell, a Davis family friend, founded a charitable foundation. GoFundMeHe spoke on behalf of his mom and shared more information about Davis as a young man.
“He worked hard coming back from two injuries to be one of the best college football players in the country. He was a rising star (both on and off the field) and the world was seeing what we all had known for a long time, that he was a talented one of a kind kid,” said Mitchell.
D’Sean Perry was a linebacker for the school and was from Miami, Florida, where he went to Gulliver Prep for high school, according to his athletic Profil.
Cliff Kling, President of Gulliver Prep shared his memories of Perry’s time as a student, mentor, and friend.
“After you had an encounter with him, you were better for it. He was a bright mind, caring heart,”According to Kling Local 10.com.
Kling also said that Perry would continue to help him mentor footballers even after he graduated. Local 10.com reported.
Bulluck described Perry, according to The New York Post, as a silent leader who people gravitated towards and believed that he was destined to greatness.
“D’Sean walked around with a curiosity of the world that would have taken him places,”Bullock spoke to the New York Post. “I think he would have grown up to be an influential person.”
Two young men were also injured in the incident and were taken to the UVA Medical Center. However, their identities were not released, said Timothy Longo, Chief of Police at UVA Police.
