Reese Witherspoon served as the film’s producer, which marked the first time she and Smith have worked together. As the book-to-film adaptation’s producer, the Legally Blonde star got to interview Smith and leading lady Daisy Edgar-Jones for the film’s promotion on behalf of Sony Pictures Entertainment. Before the interview began, she told the lead man that he looked familiar to her. She also mentioned that he looked like a high school friend. After the cast and director introduced themselves to each other, Witherspoon brought the subject up again. Smith explained how the two of them (with Ryan Phillippe, Witherspoon’s ex husband) were linked together by the fan favorite Cruel Intentions. The revelation was hilariously sweet between the producer and star.

Smith: Yeah, yeah.
Witherspoon: I’m seriously blown away right now.

Witherspoon: Well, that’s what it is. I thought it was something else, but now it got weird. I see that too, by the way. You kind of look like my son!”
It was a compliment to Smith that the rising actor reminded him of her son. Smith did not look uncannily like Reese Witherspoon, but he shared a remarkable resemblance to Deacon Phillippe’s ex husband and son. He shares the older Phillippe’s facial structure in conjuncture with the Sweet Home Alabama star’s blue eyes and blonde hair. I guess there’s another name to add to who looks more like Phillippe and Witherspoon. Phillippe and Witherspoon disagree about the looks of their children.
It appeared that the resemblance worked in favor of the Blacklight actor. The unseen 2016 Cruel IntentionsPilot, Taylor John Smith was Bash Casey, Annette Hargrove’s love child Sebastian Valmont, and Annette Hargrove. Sarah Michelle Gellar reprised her role of Kathryn Merteuil, now a mature Kathryn Merteuil. Unfortunately, the Sharp Objects actor didn’t act alongside Witherspoon, as she was recast in the Cruel IntentionsWith Kate Levering as Annette in reboot NBC declined to film the pilot. Instead, the producers began shopping for series on other networks. Cruel IntentionsWas declared officially dead in water.
The original film is a classic and has made Phillippe, Witherspoon and Gellar future Hollywood stars.
