Quentin Tarantino is a director. He didn’t go to film school. Instead, he worked in a video-store clerk and studied movies endlessly. He has become a renowned filmmaker and is one of the few people on the planet with such a vast knowledge of the medium.

One might assume that Tarantino would select carefully the film that his son would see, but the contrary is true. It was an accident that Tarantino showed his son his first movie. Despicable Me 2.

Quentin Tarantino shared this amusing revelation in an interview with EmpireWhile specifically discussing his approach for introducing his children movie-going to his children (he has a 2 year-old and a newborn who were born this month together with Daniella Pick), he also mentioned that he had a random intention to show his son a movie. He shared that he intended to show his son a movie on a random day. MinionsIt turned out to be the original cartoon Despicable Me sequel:

[My son is] pretty young, so he’s only really seen one movie. I thought I was hitting a Minions cartoon, and I realise it’s Despicable Me Part 2. He seemed interested in the opening credits so I go. ‘Okay, I guess we’Rewatch Despicable Me Part 2′

Quentin Tarantino said that while it took his son a few minutes to adjust to the cinematic experience. But they finally finished the movie by watching it over the course a week. According to the filmmaker,

He gets up and he walks behind the couch, but he’s still watching the TV. It was 20 minutes long, so he could go to the park. Then, the next day, he watched another 15 minutes. So, over the course a week, we watched Despicable Me Part 2 in small chunks.

He accidentally showed his son Despicable Me 2Perhaps he can break down the movie into segments and make his children’s first viewing of a full film something special.

Quentin Tarantino’s son Quentin Tarantino has other viewing habits than just watching the film. MinionsThe filmmaker said that Peppa Pig is a favorite – and it definitely doesn’t make it sound like he is suffering through the viewing experience.
