Fans are under the impression that Fergully: The Last Rainforest is being remade into a live-action film in 2024 after a poster mentioning Zendaya and other Hollywood stars has surfaced on the Internet.
Several classic films are being remade into live-action movies, but the 1992 hit featuring Robin Williams isn’t one of them! Before you get your hopes high for Christmas, here’s what you need to know.
Poster of Ferngully starring Zendaya and others isn’t real
The fake poster that has been making the rounds on social media since June 2023 has convinced fans that a remake film is in the making.
The rumors trace back to a Facebook post, Snopes notes. The poster was attached to a post that was captioned: “Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch and Jim Carrey will head up the live-action remake of the 1992 film ‘FernGully the Last Rain Forest’.”
“Emma Thompson and Lukas Gage are also starring with Alan Silvestri returning to provide the soundtrack,” it claimed further.
The poster simply features the names of the Hollywood actors on the top with a fake release date mentioned at the bottom, claiming the film would hit theaters on December 25, 2024.
Disney isn’t making the live-action film
There is no truth to rumors that Disney is re-making the 1992 film in live-action as the network has not make any official announcement and the actors speculated to be starring in it haven’t hinted at the same either.
While Disney hasn’t publicly addressed the rumors, IMDB shows the original film was distributed by 20th Century Fox, which now owns Disney.
Disney reportedly does not have any releases lined up for Christmas 2024 like the poster claims. However, an untitled animated film is scheduled to come out on November 27, 2023.
The next Disney movie expected to be released in February 2025 is Blade.
Spider-Man actress isn’t starring in Moana
Zendaya was also rumored to be starring as Moana in the live-action remake movie after a make-believe poster featuring Spider-Man was leaked online.
The photoshopped picture features Zendaya clad in Moana’s outfit with the overlay text “Zendaya as Moana”. The poster doesn’t consist of any other detail or even the Disney logo.
The caption read: “Zendaya will play Moana in the upcoming ‘Moana’, live-action movie.”
But, there’s no truth to this claim. Neither Zendaya nor Disney has commented on the former playing the role in the upcoming film, as much as fans wish it came true.
