Pierce Brosnan Shares ‘Stupid Comment’This could have cost him Batman

To outsiders, Pierce Brosnan may seem to have had a dream career on the screen. He effortlessly transitioned from TV success in 1982 to movie superstardom in 1990.

The actor from Ireland has revealed that he was not happy with a comment he made. This could have led to him losing a major role.

Brosnan was already a star of the TV detective series Remington Steele – and appeared in films including The Fourth Protocol Mrs Doubtfire – when he auditioned for the role of Batman for the film to be directed by Tim Burton.

This week he told The Tonight ShowBrosnan believed that a simple joke might be enough to secure the role.

“I remember saying something stupid to Tim Burton,”He told Jimmy Fallon. “I said, ‘You know I can’t understand [why] any man who would wear his underpants outside his trousers.’

“But there you go … the best man got the job.”

Michael Keaton was able to bag the role. He then went on playing it again in Batman Returns1992

Things didn’t turn out too badly for Brosnan, either – instead of Batman he got James Bond, a role he played four times in total between 1995 and 2002, and in which – for some – he remains the ultimate 007.
