Peru’s Professional Violinist makes Violins for Children Using Recycled Materials

Jesus Peralta, a professional violinist turned music teacher and carpenter, is one of his many talents. That’s because he wants to share his love of the violin with children in Lima, Peru.

He claims that the only way to get the instrument into the hands future musicians is to build it himself. So he’s been crafting his own violins out of recycled materials.

His workshop costs about $20 for each violin. It includes wood, plastic bottles, and string. This is a lot cheaper than buying a real violin which costs around $150

Peralta calls his portable instrument a Bottlephone Violin.

Peralta, who has been playing for Luciano Pavarotti over his long career, hopes to continue his passion and pass it on to the next generation.
