Parents Arrest in Upstate NY after allegedly murdering their 8-year-old son in Ohio

A mother and father have been arrested in upstate New York for allegedly murdering their 8-year-old son and abusing their four other children in Ohio, authorities said.

John and Katherine Snyder, both 51 years old, were taken into custody in Clinton County, near the Canadian border. They were arrested after their parents were indicted in Cincinnati for murder, aggravated killing, and child endangerment.

The incident in 2016, in which Snyders adopted son, aged 8, died, led to the charges. Hamilton County’s coroner ruled that Snyders’ death was a homicide due to blunt force trauma to head. There was also bronchial pneumonia.

The Snyders responded by filing two civil lawsuits to remove homicide from the cause of death. They also asked for a judge’s review of the report.

A judge refused those requests in 2020, and the Hamilton County Department of Jobs and Family Services obtained permanent custody of the couple’s four remaining children, three of them adopted and one their biological child, authorities said.

Now the children are grown and ready to go. “safe”authorities stated that the indictments were filed in Ohio this week because they were located in Ohio and had recently provided new information.

According to the sheriff’s Office, the Snyders were detained Tuesday by Clinton County Sheriff’s Deputies who were acting for Ohio authorities.

According to the sheriff’s Office, an extradition hearing will be held next week.
