A COUPLE shared how their romantic getaway turned into nightmare after their WizzAir flight was diverted at a different airport, 400 miles away.

Ben Hall, 42, was looking forward to a brief break in Dubrovnik (Croatian), with his wife. However, their trip was canceled after their flight was diverted to Zagreb by the airline. “abandoned” them.

Ben, a Sheffield native, explained that the pair were left to their fates and had to spend the night in the airport.

After a delay of three hours from Luton in Bedfordshire, the flight was rerouted towards the capital, which is an eight-hour drive away from Dubrovnik.

About 100 passengers were left behind, despite being promised that they would be transported to their destination by bus.

Ben told MailOnline“First we were told that the flight was delayed because there was no captain or crew on board so staff had to be able to travel to Luton and work on it.

“When we finally started, it was around 20 minutes before our scheduled landing. The pilot said over the speaker that because of high winds, we couldn’t land so we were heading for Split.

“Five Minutes later, he said that Split airport had closed and we couldn’t use its runway. Nobody knew what was really going on.

“Then we started to descend, and the pilot came back on the speaker and said we were descending to Zagreb airport and that staff would arrange coaches to take us to Dubrovnik.”

After learning that the journey would take up to eight hours, passengers quickly realized they were in for an extended trip.

Ben stated that Wizz air sent an email to his apology for waiting so long. It said they would be “unable to sort a bus out”For them.

He claimed that the airport was closed and Zagreb’s hotels were full. No rental car companies were open at the time.

He added: “Taxis quoted 1000 euros to take people. They claimed it was an 800-mile trip for them.

“There were people falling asleep in their wheelchairs, newborn babies crying and parents saying they had no sterilised bottles left. People were sleeping on the floor everywhere.”

Wizz Air has been reached out for comment.
