Oprah releases the first trailer for Sidney Poitier’s Documentary

Apple TV+ has released the trailer for the documentary “Sidney,”Produced by Oprah Winfrey, Reginald Hudlin directed it. This honors Sidney Poitier.

The documentary will capture Poitier’s legacy as an iconic actor, filmmaker and activist at the center of Hollywood and the Civil Rights Movement.

“The world I knew was quite simple,” Poitier’s voice opens the trailer. “I never thought about what I looked like. I didn’t know what a mirror was!”

This film includes candid interviews featuring Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman and Halle Berry as well as Robert Redford, Robert Redford, Lenny Kravitz Barbra Streisand, Spike Lee, Spike Lee, and many others. Derik Murray produced the film in close collaboration to the Poitier family.

The film follows Poitier’s life and career as he moved from the Bahamas to America, learning about the concept of racial division after living his self-described ‘simple’The island life

“America began to say to me ‘You’re not who you think you are.’” Poitier continues. “There was a habit in Hollywood of utilizing blacks in the most disrespectful ways. I said, ‘I cannot play that.’”

“Sidney”This is an Apple Original Film, produced by Harpo Productions & Network Entertainment. Oprah Winfrey produces the documentary for Harpo Productions. Derik Murray is representing Network Entertainment. “Sidney”Reginald Hudlin, Academy Award nominee, directs the film. The screenplay was written by Jesse James Miller.

Poitier was the first Black actor ever to win an Academy Award. The trailer describes Poitier as one the few cultural threads that kept America together during this time. Oprah weeps when she talks about her love of the actor.

“My life has had more than a few wonderful, indescribable turns,”Poitier comments at the end. “And I have lived them.”

“Sidney”The premiere will be in select theaters worldwide and on Apple TV+ globally Friday, September 23, 2022.
