One Of Jordan Peele’s Nope Stars Reveals How They Made The Director Cry During Audition

Auditions can be nerve-wracking for actors. Auditions can be stressful for actors when they have to audition for a movie with a high-profile director. Brandon Perea was in exactly that situation when he auditioned to Jordan Peele’s newest movie. Nope. Now, the young actor has revealed that Peele was not only impressed with his audition but also that he was moved by Perea’s performance.

Brandon Perea was recently interviewed The Hollywood ReporterWe discussed the Critics Choice Rising Star Award that will be presented to him on November 13th. The conversation quickly turned to Peele’s sci-fi UFO thriller, Angel Tores. The actor said that Angel was far more pleasant and less angsty than the original script. But he decided to make the character stand out and play it with a bit of edge. The actor stated:

I received an email stating that there was a position on a Jordan Peele project. I assumed it would be a role for day-players. I decided to be more angsty and put myself on tape. Angel was originally written as a nicer dude, but I wanted to stand out — and I know the employees at tech stores are angry because they’re smarter than all the customers. (Laughs.)

This was a decision that clearly worked for Perea. We all know Perea’s audition impressed the director so much. Jordan Peele rewrote this partAngel. Perea claims he was invited to do a Zoom callback, where he performed an improv session alongside Peele. In that callback, the actor found out that he had been offered the role. This caused him to weep. The filmmaker must have felt the same emotion because he began to weep. As Perea explained:

Well, I got a callback, and then was invited to do an improv session on Zoom with Jordan — I get on the call and he’s like, ‘So with the character you brought me, I’m going to have to rewrite the script to make it work.” I thought, “OMG, I don’t think I will ever get this job. But I’m glad I was able to meet Jordan Peele.” But then he said, “You’ve got the part. I’m going through it again.” I began crying and told him about all the emotions that went into trying to make it big in Hollywood. He started to cry, too.
