FIFA 23 has partnered with Adidas to bring back real World Cup footballs.
FIFA 23 World Cup mode will launch this week. FIFA 23 has also introduced several official footballs that were used in previous World Cups.
Fans have been critical of the move for many reasons.
The first is that the six balls are priced at 20k FIFA Ultimate Team coins each or 70k for the entire set.
While FUT coins are unable to be purchased in game, third-party websites sell 70k for around £10 ($12).
This amount of coins could be used to buy around 10 FUT packs. That’s 120 players and other items.
Despite the price, players were interested in the set in order to be able to play with some of the World Cup’s more infamous balls.
The ball used in the 2002’s World Cup is considered one of the worst in the sport due to how light it was.
Jabulani was used in 2010’s World Cup and was also known for its weird trajectory.
The promotional set of footballs is just skins. They play no different to regular balls in-game.
Another complaint is that the ball used in 2018’s World Cup is mysteriously missing.
The ball is not believed to have been included in solidarity against Ukraine because that year’s tournament was in Russia.
However, this year the World Cup will take place in Qatar, a country known for human rights’ abuses.
37 people have died as a result of the construction of the stadium for World Cup.
There are believed to be many more deaths not reported as a result of the event.
Reports indicate that Qatar has lost 6.5k migrants since Qatar was awarded the world’s biggest football event.
EA Sports, the developer of the game, is not responsible for FIFA’s World Cup in Qatar. However, the game will still include the World Cup mode.
EA Sports will end all ties to FIFA in the future due to licensing fees and will rebrand it as EA Sports FC.
