Patrick seems to eliminate both of the season’s villains through similar actions in two scenes that are full of complex emotions. Patrick, who is tied to a metal surgical table, becomes more restless and afraid. Whitely intends to take out Patrick’s still-beating heart to use in his sick Sentinel Project. Patrick’s eyes begin to widen, and his fury increases. After he has gained his freedom, he can unleash his rage.
Episode 7 “The Sentinel,”Gino and Henry Grant (Denis O’Hare), manage to escape Whitely’s clutches through a remarkable act of self sacrifice on Henry’s behalf. Patrick makes an unreversible decision as soon as they regroup with Patrick. Whitely is told by him that he needs redemption and that he can see the murdered souls. As his anger grows, he raises a gun and sprays Whitely with blood on the lamp behind. The light reveals the gore. Patrick deliberately robs Whitely off any chance to redeem himself, while simultaneously taking Gino’s power to get justice.
This is what Episode 8 shows us again. “Fire Island,”Patrick tries desperately save Gino Carpenter (Charlie Carver), from Big Daddy. He fires one bullet at the back of his head and executes the plan. But in an unfortunately unsurprising turn, the leather-clad strangler is nowhere to be found when they look for his body a little while later.
