The fifth season of The Last Kingdom is also going to be the last. The historic Netflix Original series draws an adaptation from Bernard Cornwell’s ‘The Saxon Stories’ works.
In the beginning, the series was co-produced between Netflix, and BBC, a notable British Broadcaster. However, since the release of the third season, Netflix has the sole right to release The Last Kingdom.
The Last Kingdom Season 5: Renewal Status
Back on July 7, 2020, Netflix renewed the series for the last season. As the series is making its exit, it is a bittersweet moment for both cast members and fans.
The cast of the series took it to Twitter to announce the return of the series for one last season.
The Last Kingdom Season 5: Release Date
The entire production of a series like The Last Kingdom is nothing less than a lengthy process. It also suggests the fans of the series will not be able to lay their eyes on the fifth season until last 2021. There is a highly likely chance that the release date can extend to the beginning of 2022.
Ever since Netflix acquired the rights to the series, the streaming giant has added a couple of extra episodes. At the same time, Netflix has also added an extra month between the release dates of the two seasons. It took an overall 18 months to release the second and third season, by the looks of it. Even it took 17 months between seasons three and four to premiere on Netflix.
The Last Kingdom Season 5: Plot
The fourth season explored the relationship between Uhtred and his children as compared to the previous seasons. However, Uhtred learns that all of his children inherited the traits from the father and his stubbornness and the absolute desire to follow the path they pave.
The fifth season will explore negotiating peace among the Saxons and the Danes, who are constantly in conflict.
