Netflix is the latest company to stop doing business in Russia over Ukraine’s Invasion

Variety is reporting that NextflixRussia, where it was concerned about the Ukrainian invasion, has had its streaming services suspended. According to a spokesperson for the streaming company, “Given the circumstances on the ground, we have decided to suspend our service in Russia,”Netflix last week announced that it was suspending all future acquisitions and plans from the country.

Netflix is only present in Russia since 2016. Russia accounts for one million of the 222 million global users. Netflix is the latest to join other large private companies in removing their business from Russia.

American Express stated Sunday that their cards won’t work at any American Express locations. ATMsRussia. CBS News reports that they are closing all business operations in Belarus. American Express released a statement that said, “One of our company values is to ‘Do What is Right.’ This principle has guided us throughout this difficult crisis and will continue to do so, as we stand by our colleagues, customers, and the international community in hoping for a peaceful resolution to this crisis.”

This follows Saturday’s announcement by Visa and Mastercard that their Russian operations were being suspended.

Mastercard announced that their network will no more support Russian bank cards and any Mastercard issued in Russia will not work at ATMs or stores. Visa stated that it will work with partners and clients in Russia to stop transactions in the next days.

Ikea, Apple, Disney, and Harley-Davidson were also among those companies who decided to cease doing business with Russia after the invasion in Ukraine.

The fastest recorded refugee exodus since World War II has seen more than 1.5 million people flee Ukraine. This, according to Fillipo Grandi, the U.N.’s High Commissioner for Refugees. Grandi tells CBS News that most of them are women and children. This is because a decree which requires men between 18 and 60 to remain behind and fight for their country has been in effect.
